In this assignment, we were tasked with recreating a fellow student's long lost childhood object. As we were paired off into groups to discussed our lost toys, I was paired with my good friend Val Angulo, who described a dinosaur stuffed animal/puppet to me. The Dinosaur was explained to me as having crazy deformed eyes, to little weak T-Rex arms, and sharp teeth that jutted outward awkwardly.

She described many moments with this toy, one of which explaining how she got it. Apparently she begged her mom to let her have it at a garage sale; her mom was very confused as to why she would want it, but gave in. It also had saved her from a broken arm when she almost launched herself over a spiral staircase, this stuffed puppet help her hold onto the railing without it hurting.
Finding a way to recreate someone else's loved loved object was daunting and scary. I didn't want to let my good friend down and not do her memories justice. These sort of memories mean a lot to some people.

As I reflect on this sort of project, it makes me think of lots of things from my childhood, and how you as a person will always hold these certain positive memories with you. Certain items not only hold your memories, but your emotions too. Just like an old photo can take you back to the good old days, so can items we lose. That might be why recreating someone else's item that holds their emotions can be a scary thing. But it also allows you to participate into their thinking, their childhood, and make something they once loved into something new that holds new value.
